~ Do I Need You ~

By Michael Curley

Do I need you?

I need you to be who you are, to be true to yourself

I need you to pay attention to your own needs

I need you to stand in your truth whatever the circumstances

I need you to respect yourself totally

I need you to find your life purpose and to live it

I need you to radiate in your joy

I need you to live each moment, here, now

To stay present to all of the possibilities that this moment offers

Yet I want nothing from you

For I am my own sovereign being

I need nothing that you can give me

For I am complete within myself

You are not my source of pain or pleasure

These I source from within myself

Do I need you?

Yes, I need you to be you so that I can be me

~ I Survived ~

By Michael Curley

You die without ever having lived

Inventing distractions to fill your time

Each day the same, without rhythm or rhyme

Without reason, without purpose without any passion

Don't think for yourself, be a follower of fashion

And when the end comes you say with some pride

Well at least I got through it, at least I survived

I bought my own house, two cars and a boat

I took no risks and it paid off, you gloat

But you didn't win if you didn't grow

If you didn't discover what you came here to know

So you come back again and next time you see

The same problems, same people, same places, same me!

~ Night followed by Day ~

By Michael Curley

As the light closes on another day,

The sky nuancing shades of blue and grey,

A candle flickers in the gentle breeze,

I feel that I have withdrawn from everyday life

Withdrawn my energy from the unwitting interaction

And aimless creating that is the indulgence of the ignorant.

Withdrawn my power of control and influence over people and events,

Stopped planning and calculating.

Withdrawn all expectation and desire for material creation.

I become transparent, neutral, impassive and still

And as the stillness fills me, my thoughts become fewer and fewer.

Mostly there are no thoughts at all.

If there is desire, it is the desire to serve God,

To do His work, to be aligned with His will, to be who I really am.

Strange at first this feeling, this state of placid, calm, of peace.

I avoid crowds and noise, seeking instead silent solitude.

The stillness is my friend

In the stillness I can hear the silence

As the night grows quieter still and the inevitable darkness descends

slowly, gracefully, imperceptibly,

I observe the darkness keenly, but I see no change

So it is with the growth of the human soul

which cannot measure its own progress as it happens

Only by comparison to a previous "self" does the change become apparent

And as with each new day you change and you grow

You learn at last to go with the flow

The ebb and flow which is the very tantra of life itself

The in-breath followed by the out-breath, night followed by day.
