Revenge is not the Solution

Following the New York WTC terrorist attacks on 11 September 2002 . . .

Take heart. This particular act of terrorism is over for now. Do not be afraid of getting on a plane. It does not matter what you do. If you are protected then you will be safe. If it is your time to go, then it is your time to go. If you truly believe in God then there can be no fear of death. 

I have just come back from Jerusalem. I went there for a week for a Circle of Divine Unity gathering (http://www.divine-unity.org) I was one of only 10 foreigners who went. Despite the bombs going off in Jerusalem, we walked through the old city, and had lunch in the Arab quarter. We were not afraid. The Arabs were very kind to us.

On the last day, I stayed in the house of a Jewish friend who lives one hour north of Jerusalem in Bat Heffer. The house is right next to the barbed wire and concrete fence which protects them from the Arab town a kilometre away. Israeli soldiers are a permanent presence, a fact of life. The soldiers were kind to us as well.

If you fix your mind on God, there is no fear. Practise Trust. Practise Faith. Don't get caught up in the Mass Consciousness which feeds on hate, revenge and retribution. This is not the way. Nothing positive and good was ever achieved by holding onto and giving energy to these negative and harmful energies.

Give your energy unto the presence and the will of God for you. Even if you don't know what means for you personally in your life right now. The intention is enough.

Trust that the Divine Plan for you will be revealed to you, and it will. Trust that the Will of God is being worked out, and that what seems like a disaster now, is a step along the path. A thread in the tapestry of the Divine Design, which we in this human incarnation are not equipped to understand. Trust is the key.

We cannot solve this problem by singing patriotic songs, and adopting an "Us and Them" attitude. Whilst there is so much injustice in the world, there will always be those who wish to disrupt the system. Whilst we attach ourselves to identities which serve to separate us from each other (nationality, skin colour, religious belief, etc) there will never be Unity. We can never see that WE ARE ALL ONE. Would you watch your brother, mother, father, sister, children starve whilst you wore expensive clothes, jewellery, and drove around in a Mercedes? Would you say "Sod you, I take care of myself" to them? No. So why say it to other human beings on this planet, for they too in truth, are our family. Whilst there is separation, there will always be wars.

Whilst 4% of the worlds population consumes 25% of the worlds resources there will always be resentment and hatred. Whilst the richest and most privileged nations on earth get richer and fight even harder to retain their privileges to the detriment of anyone who stands in their way, there will always be injustice, poverty and hunger.

Be assured that before things get better (and they will) they will get much worse. What happened recently in USA is only the beginning. The snowball is now rolling down the hill. It will gather speed and mass and grow much larger before it eventually hits the bottom and stops. At that time, people all over the world will lay down their arms as they lose the will to kill. They will have had enough and will finally, inevitably open their eyes, minds and most importantly their hearts, to a better way.

This way already exists. It has always existed and is very simple.
We must cooperate, not compete.
We must love, not loath.
We must care, not kill.
We must cultivate compassion towards others. 

The Dalai Llama has the right attitude. Compassionate non-resistance. No violence under any circumstances. No retribution. Whatever is sent at you, send only love and compassion back. This is the way. Though difficult to put into practise, this is the way. This is the Divine Way, the way of the soul.

Don't be afraid. You can help those around you by being an example. Shine your own light, show your compassion. Be The Way.
